Eligibility to Register
Students who applied for the Summer 2008, Fall 2008 or Spring 2009 semesters or attended the Spring 2008, Summer 2008 or Fall 2008 semesters will automatically be given a registration time for the Spring 2009 semester.
Students no longer need to re-apply after missing only one semester. Students remain eligible to register for up to two (2) consecutive semesters after applying and up to three (3) consecutive semesters after registering (excluding withdrawals) for a semester. For more information regarding this change, please see the Application Timelines for University Programs Policy (C.29).
Note: Programs, courses, services, and other related activities may be offered on any day of the week. Acceptance is not a guarantee of registration in any or all of the course sections you desire. Registration of students into courses is subject to space being available on or after the student’s registration appointment time. It is important that students be flexible in their course choices, be open to attending classes on more than one campus, and be persistent in their attempts to register. If you register for classes at more than one campus, you must avoid registering for back-to-back classes as the campuses are approximately 30 minutes apart by car.

Course Requirements
Prerequisites
Undergraduate course(s) that must be successfully completed with a minimum grade of C or higher (unless otherwise indicated) before you register in a course
Co requisites
Undergraduate course(s) that must be taken at the same time, or previous to, a registered course (minimum grade of C, or higher; unless otherwise indicated, if taken previously)
Requisites listed in this timetable are the most current. It is your responsibility to ensure that your records show you have already met the prerequisites and corequisites before you register for a course. You will not be permitted to register for any course for which you lack the required requisite.
If you are currently enrolled in a course at Kwantlen that satisfies the prerequisite or corequisite course for a subsequent course in the next term, you will be permitted to register for that course. Example: if you are registered in PSYC 1100 for the Fakk 2008 term, you will be permitted to register in PSYC 1200 for the Spring 2009 term. Your registration will be checked once the final grade is in for the Fall 2008 term (all final grades should be available by December 23). If you do not achieve the required grade (usually a C or higher unless otherwise stated) you will be dropped without notification from the course requiring the prerequisite. Students who are dropped due to lack of requisites are not eligible for a refund of the deposit and will not be able to transfer the deposit to another semester. Always check your registration the next business day after each course registration/change or receipt of previous semester course final grade(s).
Requisite Waivers
If you lack the requisite(s) for a course, but feel that there is adequate justification to have it waived, you may request to have the requisite requirement(s) overridden. To do so, you must complete a Request to Waive a Course Prerequisite or Corequisite form and have it approved by an instructor of the course (Faculty may be reached through the Faculty Advising Lines – see Registration Contacts). If your request is approved, you must return the form to any campus Admissions Office one day before you attempt to register in the course.
Transfer Credits
To have courses taken elsewhere evaluated for transfer credit, you must submit an official transcript and a Request for Transfer Credit form by September 29 for Spring courses, February 17 for Summer courses and June 1 for Fall courses. This allows sufficient time for evaluation to use the course for a prerequisite. Later requests will be evaluated only as time permits. There is a non-refundable fee to evaluate out-of-province ($25.00) and out-of-country documents ($50.00). You can check both transfer credits granted and your Kwantlen grades through the Online Self Service system via the Student Records Menu.
Math and English Testing
If you want to enrol in an English or Math course for the first time at Kwantlen, you may have to write a placement test. Ideally, tests should be written at least four (4) weeks before you register. You may sign up at Admissions to write the Kwantlen Mathematics Placement Test (MPT) and the English Placement Test (EPT). For information on minimum scores, see the prerequisites listed in the Course section of this guide or the calendar. Applications to write the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test are available at all Admissions and Counselling offices. Students who have written the LPI test must notify Kwantlen Admissions directly so LPI results can be recorded on their Kwantlen record.
Repeating Courses
Kwantlen policy allows a student to register only twice in a course without special permission. If you wish to register in a course for a third time, you must complete a Request for Special Approval to Register in a Course form and submit it to the Admission Office at least three weeks before you register. Your request will be reviewed and approval will be granted or denied. Students who register for a course a third (or higher) time without prior approval will either be denied registration into the course or dropped from the course without notification.
Auditing Courses
A student who wishes to take a course, but does not wish to do so for credit, may request to audit the course. An auditor is expected to attend class, but does not participate in the evaluation process. To audit a course, a student must obtain the approval of the Registrar, Associate Registrar or an Educational Dean and be currently eligible to enrol. Priority is given to credit students, so students are not permitted to register for a course and then change to audit status. The tuition fee for a course is the same as that for a student taking the course for credit.
For the Spring semester, students will be permitted to request audit status in 1000 and 2000 level courses beginning Thursday, December 11. Students will be permitted to request audit status in 3000 and 4000 level courses beginning Monday, January 5, 2009.
To apply for audit status, students must fill out a Course Status Change form and submit this form to the Admissions Office at the Langley, Richmond or Surrey campus.
Maximum Course Load
You are permitted to register in a maximum of five courses unless you are in a selective-entry program that requires more than five courses per semester.
For some international students, different credit limits may apply. International students should contact the International Education office at 604.599.2534 for more information.
If you wish to enrol in more credit hours (a course overload), you must request permission to do so at least three weeks before you register. Complete a Request for Special Approval to Register in a Course form and submit it to the Admissions Office (Enrolment Services). A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CPGA) of 3.00 is required. First semester students will not normally be permitted to enrol in a course overload.
Full-Time Status
A student who is enrolled in nine or more semester credit hours is considered to be full-time. Students enrolled in fewer than nine credits are considered to be part-time. The minimum course load to qualify for a student loan is nine post-secondary undergraduate credits.
