Message from the Chair

Dear Fellow Kwantlen Alumni,

What an exciting time to be a part of the Kwantlen family! When the provincial government announced in April that Kwantlen would be renamed Kwantlen Polytechnic University and be granted full university status, I was thrilled. In actuality, we’ve been a university in every way but name for years – offering full baccalaureate degrees since 1995. As alumni, this announcement means more to us than meets the eye. The face value of our education is only as good as the current reputation of our alma mater. As Kwantlen Polytechnic University expands and improves its programming, our credentials look better and better to potential employers and clients.

I am also pleased to announce that we will be incorporating an official Kwantlen University Alumni Association this summer. Over the next few months, we will be putting out a call for nominations to join our Board of Directors. We’re looking for alumni who are keen on giving back to the institution that gave them their start. Contact the alumni office for more information and visit the website often for updates.

Over the last few months, our Alumni department has hosted several networking events and reunions, with more planned for the near future. The June issue of InTouch features photos and stories about some of these hugely successful inaugural events. We also have a Trades BBQ and Interior Design 20 year reunion planned for this fall, so stay tuned!

On June 5-6, 2008, at our annual Convocation ceremonies, five Alumni were recognized who have enhanced the reputation of the University through their outstanding career, public/community service, athletic, arts and culture, or academic achievements. Visit our Distinguished Alumni page to hear their stories.

I encourage you to stay in touch with Kwantlen by updating your information with our Alumni Office. This will ensure that we are able to communicate with you better as we continue to develop our Alumni programs.

Sincerely,

Shane King
Chair, Kwantlen Alumni Association
