A Movember to Remember – Campus Recreation’s Dodgeball Tournament a Huge Success!
You may have noticed a lot of “sophisticated” men and women around Kwantlen’s Surrey Campus in November as KSA Intramurals and Kwantlen Recreation held their second annual Movember Dodgeball Tournament. This year’s title of Dodgeball Champion went to the team “P.R.E.” captained by Kwantlen student Eric Johal. With 16 teams vying for the title of 2011 Movember dodgeball champion the competition in the Surrey gymnasium was fast and furious. As the day’s action proceeded and the competition became more intense, the atmosphere in the gym remained fun and lighthearted. The championship match was tightly contested, however the amazing dodging skills of “P.R.E.” was too much for the “Balls to the Walls” to overcome and allowed them take home the title. Other notable winners this year were Mike White who took home the title of M.O.M (Most Outstanding Moustache) on the men’s side, and Michelle Wessa who took home the female M.O.M. with her outstanding fake moustache that would make David Crosby proud. “I Already Hit That” were chosen for the Best Team Spirit Award.
KSA Manager of Health and Recreation, and resident dodgeball guru Eddie Lee was very happy with the turnout at this year’s event. “It was a fantastic event” said Lee. “The atmosphere in the gym was outstanding and you could really tell that everyone was there to have a good time. We completely sold the event out and every team showed amazing spirit and demonstrated exceptional fair play”
The Movember Dodgeball tournament is a joint fundraiser between the KSA, KSA Intramurals and Kwantlen Athletics and Recreation. All of the tournament proceeds are donated directly to Movember Canada for prostate cancer research and awareness campaigns. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners and we hope to see everyone back in 2012!
Thank you for Getting Active KPU!
Kwantlen's six week fitness tracking challenge, Active KPU has officially come to an end for the fall semester. This year we had 167 people register for the challenge, and many millions of steps taken throughout the 6 weeks. The 2011 Active KPU Challenge winner is Sibeal Foyle from the faculty of Fine Arts. This is the second time Sibeal has won a Kwantlen Recreation Fitness Challenge, as she won last fall's "President's Challenge". Kwantlen School of Business Student Aishah Muhammad, and Admissions Coordinator Cindy Bilow rounded out the top three competitors. The team competition was won by The Research Office, who narrowly edged out Fine Arts and the Library.
Congratulations to all the Active KPU participants for your commitment to getting active and improving your health over the past six weeks. You have demonstrated that Kwantlen students and employees care about health and wellness and having services and programs that motivate and reward your efforts. The StepsOut website will remain open for your use until August 2012 so keep on stepping!

Los Chicos, La Campeona - International Education Week Soccer Tournament
On Tuesday November 15 Kwantlen Recreation and KSA Intramurals hosted an indoor soccer tournament in celebration of international education week. The tournament saw three teams, the Radicals, Los Chicos, and Team Scandinavia battle head to head for the championship. The final came down to a tightly contested match between the Radicals and Los Chicos. At the end of regulation time the score was deadlocked at 2-2. in overtime Los Chicos were able to sneak a ball past the Radicals keeper to take home the inaugural 2011 Kwantlen Cup.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year's tournament. Students who are interested in playing indoor soccer at Kwantlen can do so during regularly scheduled open gym times. Please email the Recreation department if you are interested in setting up a time to play.
