Research Ethics
Purpose
The purpose of the Research Ethics Board (REB) is to ensure that appropriate standards are followed and to support researchers in their efforts to conduct ethically sound research when research is conducted using human participants.
Scope of Policy
Unless expressly exempted, all research under the auspices of Kwantlen Polytechnic University and all research on our campuses that involves living human subjects require prior review and approval by the REB. This includes research by those who are not Kwantlen employees or students.

Application Process
To apply for Research Ethics Review, please review the information below. When the Application for Ethics Review is complete, please forward it to the Office of Research and Scholarship by e-mail to reb@kwantlen.ca, allowing up to 8 weeks for application approval.

- The TCPS 2 Tutorial Course on Research Ethics (CORE) is now available at http://www.pre.ethics.gc.ca/eng/resources-ressources/news-nouvelles/nr-cp/2011-06-15/. Persons completing the Course are advised to make multiple copies of their certificate of completion in anticipation of multiple occasions where proof of completion is required.

Reporting Documents
Breach of the Policy
- On behalf of Kwantlen Polytechnic University, The REB reserves the right to immediately halt any research project involving human participants that has been started without the required approval, or which does not follow the procedures specified in the approved application.
- Kwantlen employees may be served with a warning letter and/ or lose research privileges for serious or repeated violations of ethics policy. For students, penalties may include a warning letter, a failing grade on a research project, or suspension from studies.
