Many students find the transition into post-secondary studies to be harder than they predicted. Grades are harder to come by and personal initiative and management now becomes essential. UNIV 1100 is designed to give new students an excellent primer on the skills necessary for success at university/college. UNIV 1101 (3 cr): ACADEMIC SUCCESS FOR STUDENT ATHLETES

Kwantlen varsity athletes will learn skills for achieving academic and athletic success. They will explore and write about the challenges that athletes face in terms of achieving academic and personal success and develop a personal plan to address these challenges. They will also learn practical skills for academic success such as listening, writing, note-taking, public speaking, and library research. Only open to varsity athletes. This innovative course is the only one of its kind in Canada, and is taught by Steve Dooley. Steve is a member of the Sociology faculty, and has a background in athletic coaching. View Calendar |
UNIV 4100 (3 cr): SENIOR YEAR TRANSITION

Today’s graduate has a vast array of options, but many careers do not have clear pathways. Landing a job requires savvy marketing of your degree as well as self-marketing tools. Students in 4100 will engage in reflective career management and decision-making activities including portfolio & resume preparation, strategizing for job search, and simulated interviewing. Students will access community and university/college resources while considering leadership roles in their alumni, national, and international communities.
