All About Anthropology

Department Drum
Our logo was specially designed and hand crafted
for our Department and we are incredibly proud and
honoured to display it in our faculty.

Anthropology is the study of humankind --- wherever and whenever it is found. It offers students an opportunity to expand their studies of humanity across 4 sub-fields.

  • Social/Cultural Anthropology is the study of the way of life of contemporary and historically recent human populations.*
  • Archaeology is the study of past cultures, primarily through their material remains.*
  • Biological Anthropology is the biological study of human physical variation, including the study of human ancestors and closely related primates.*
  • Linguistics is the anthropological study of languages. Courses are offered through the Linguistics Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
  • At Kwantlen we include a 5th sub-field of anthropology: Applied Anthropology.* In this sub-field anthropological methods are applied to problems in the real world. Working in conjunction with communities, individuals and/or interdisciplinary teams, anthropologists focus on conducting research that is based on providing problem-solving information. An example of this type of study is forensic anthropology.*

Anthropology is Arts and Science

Depending upon your interests, anthropology can give you both arts and science credits. Our teaching talents are so diverse that we can offer both lecture and lab courses. We believe in teaching about the practical aspects of the world as well as the theoretical.

Our main concepts are "culture" and "people". That’s the reason anthropology courses teach people skills. Every profession requires expert knowledge in this subject.

Culture, Community, and Well-Being

Utilizing a global perspective, we aim to present culture, community, and well-being from many perspectives. Studying Anthropology at Kwantlen is an opportunity to learn about your local and global world.
