Parts & Warehousing

The Foundation program is a 20 week program.  Students prepare for employment in the parts and service industries as a parts person, warehouse person, or inventory clerk. This program is appropriate for students who enjoy computer usage, automobiles, commercial or industrial equipment. Hands-on experience is the basis from which skills are developed in the program. Students will learn various techniques in inventory management that relate to the parts and warehousing fields. Through computer usage students will become knowledgeable in ordering, billing, identification, processes, as well as customer service skills. Students who complete the Foundation program are eligible for credit for the first level of apprenticeship technical training, as well as 300 work-based hours toward completion of the Parts or Logistics & Distribution apprenticeship programs.

Students beginning their apprenticeship training begin in the Parts and Warehousing Level 1 (Core) session. From this core session students can choose either the Parts stream or the Logistics & Distribution stream (formerly ‘Warehousing’). Both of these streams offer level 2 and level 3 training. To begin an apprenticeship students can make one of the following choices:

-  Complete a Foundations Parts & Warehousing program
-  Secure an employer or journeyperson who is willing to sponsor you

Once an individual has completed the three levels of technical training in the parts or warehousing field, the completion of 5040 hours of on-the-job training and achieved a 70% or higher on the Inter-provincial examination under the guidelines of apprenticeship training they would receive a:

-  ITA Certificate of Qualification
-· Inter-provincial Red Seal Endorsement (Parts trade only)
-· Certificate of Apprenticeship

A Logistics & Distribution person orders, stores, distributes, implements and administers the daily logistical operations of a warehouse and deals with customer issues. Not a ‘Red Seal’ trade.
